Stop Abuse of the Unpaid Internship.

Created by M.M. on May 02, 2013

The unpaid post-college internship can be a great educational opportunity, and an excellent way to develop valuable skills that lead to a full-time job. Since the Great Recession, employers are increasingly exploiting vulnerable job seekers by using the work of unpaid interns as a substitute for that of regular employees, or to the immediate benefit of the employer. Unpaid interns in general should be the primary beneficiary of the work they preform for an employer. As a result of an abusive trend in the U.S. economy where employers are becoming the primary beneficiary of unpaid internships, this petition directs Congress to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to include provisions that will seek to reduce employer exploitation and abuse of unpaid interns and minimum wage laws.
