Stop allowing the dehumanization of obese people by various media outlets.

Created by J.K. on February 02, 2014

The media has aided in the dehumanization of obese Americans for decades and it is time to stop. Obesity for many is not self-inflicted. In America we are taught to protect the civil rights of minorities and citizens with disabilities from discrimination; however, protecting the rights of the obese have fallen short. The people who suffer need to be shown the same dignity as those who are afflicted by any other illness that presents with external physical manifestations. We have been portrayed in the most derogatory and offensive manner which has led to mass public discrimination and stereotyping. This constant barrage of negativity has led many obese Americans to suffer psychological trauma. We ask for new media regulations that respect those who suffer from this deadly disease.
