Stop allowing junk-food items to be purchased with SNAP Benefits (food stamps). Require healthy food choices like WIC.

Created by T.D. on October 31, 2012

Each day millions of tax-payer's dollars are spent on junk food items by SNAP benefits (food stamp) recipients. WIC (Women-Infant-Children) has for years required only healthy food options with its vouchers--there is no reason the US Department of Agriculture cannot require the same thing for purchases with SNAP benefits. Items that may be purchased with the card are already limited to exclude things like alcohol and tobacco, which means it is possible to further pare down the list to omit things such as soda pop, candy, doughnuts and other unhealthy items. The USDA SNAP website says: "We put healthy food on the table for more than 46 million people each month." Let's hold them to that statement by only allowing healthy food to be purchased with benefits.
