Currently, the members of Congress are paid $174,000 a year and have the ability to vote themselves a raise based on the 1989 Ethics Reform Act. I think this is ridiculous. Our economy is near recession and we have lawmakers that make six figures? Rather than allow more pay raises, why not let the people of the United States vote on what a member of Congress should be paid. This is after all, "public service." The same people that are beating down the middle class with their reforms, why not start them off at $35,000 a year and based on their performance, let the people that vote them in, vote on their salary.
