Stop assassinating United States citizens

Created by S.K. on November 21, 2011

Bypassing all constitutional protections afforded citizens, President Obama ordered the assassination of a US citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki. The United States military then executed the President's orders and killed 3 US citizens: Samir Khan, Anwar al-Awlaki, and his 16 year old son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki with drone strikes in Yemen.

The death penalty may now be imposed on any US citizen by Presidential fiat. Should there be treasonous crimes and criminals for whom even the protection of the Bill of Rights is too good?

Please outline the Constitutional authority granted to the President to strip these rights away, and kill US citizens abroad without trial. Or even better, stop assassinating US citizens (even when we REALLY dislike them).
