AT&T and Time Warner are both massive media conglomerates, each of which already exercises near-monopolistic control of their respective industries in certain areas.
A merger between these two media giants promotes vertical integration in the media industry to a degree that increases the gap between both companies and their existing competitors, raises the barrier of entry for future competition, and puts a potentially dangerous level of media content and distribution control in an even smaller number of hands.
This anticompetitive merger is yet another step towards allowing fewer, larger corporations an excessive level of control over our information infrastructure, and should be stopped by those sworn to serve the best interests of the people.
