Stop big coal and Rep. lawmakers from expanding coal mining operations in the Powder River Basin.

Big Coal and Republican lawmakers are pushing to expand mining operations on federal lands in the Powder River Basin (PRB), which straddles eastern Montana and Wyoming and holds the bulk of the country’s coal stocks.
If they’re successful, railways in the Pacific Northwest will soon transport an annual cargo bound for Asian markets that amounts to more than 200 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
President Obama has said that climate change should be a priority. As such, carbon emissions should be kept at a minimum. More than 40 percent of US coal lies in the PRB. Transporting it alone will spread approximately on ton of coal dust on the west coast per rail car.
Coal has the highest carbon content of all the fossil fuels and the highest greenhouse gas content of all fossil fuels.
