We The People respectfully ask that the federal government and all other regulatory bodies within the United States stop using the term "marijuana" to describe the plant cannabis. The use of the term is historically based in the 1930's and the MarihuanaTax Act of 1937, erroneously establishing a prejudicial link towards Mexicans in response to widespread illegal immigration issues. Prior to the 1930's cannabis was not called marijuana by the US public. The common name was cannabis or ganja. Based on that federal law enacted in 1937 our culture was impacted exponentially in the negative by an irrational inclusion of a "marijuana scare" that continues to this day. This petition asks that the President and the federal gov't acknowledge that to refer to cannabis as marijuana is improper/wrong.
