A Democracy is mob rule. As long as an opinion is popular enough, legislation can be passed to uphold the opinion. This mentality is dangerous to liberty, especially that of the unpopular. A Constitutional Republic, as guaranteed to us by the Constitution of the United States of America, is rooted in the people conferring specific and limited powers to the government and reserving all other powers for themselves. This system is intended to preserve liberty and can only do so if the people and Government understand the difference. We MUST stop calling us something we are not, lest people actually believe it.
