Most states list public urination as a sex crime. Often an individual will only receive a fine, however many people are forced to register on the National Sex Offender Registry.
This is utterly unacceptable, as it ruins lives and undermines the original purpose of the registry, which is to protect citizens from rapists and child molesters.
Peeing on a tree or a bush, when a restroom isn't available shouldn't ever ruin someones life.
Other acts that lands minor criminals on the sex offender list include: pranks like mooning and streaking, or a 17-year-old having consensual sex with his 16-year-old girlfriend, which makes the charge of “sexual assault against a minor” sound much worse than what actually happened.
