Subsidizing corn is perpetuating the health crisis in America. Cheaply produced, processed foods full of high-fructose corn syrup, corn meal, and other GMO containing corn byproducts are making their way onto grocery store shelves at a reduced cost, encouraging poor health choices by the uninformed American public.
In addition to poor quality foods made directly from corn, the underpriced grain is fed to dairy cattle and other livestock animals who cannot digest the grain properly and must be treated with antibiotics when they become ill.
Undercutting the market price of corn also affects our neighboring country's ability to compete in the market, encouraging the production and import of illegal drugs into the United States.
Conventional corn is also very damaging to the environment.
