Stop the "Corporations Suing States" Business Model; Stop the Extortion of El Salvador

Created by M.B. on September 03, 2013

In post-democracy, politicians yield to lobbyists and/or capital and become "errand boys" for Wall Street banks.
Corporations suing states for "lost profits" is a perverse business model, a return of colonialism where labor, environmental and human rights interests are only obstacles to higher corporate profits. Metalclad sued Mexico successfully for lost profits in its excavation contract. Pacific Rim, a Canadian gold mining firm, originally sued El Salvador for $77 million and then raised the amount to $310 million for lost profits.
Orwell warned against the distortion and corruption of language where war becomes peace, lies become truth and slavery becomes freedom.
