Our internet security is assured most commonly by the use of public-key encryption technology (check for the padlock in the address bar of your browser). However, new mathematical techniques, notably those contained in a proof of the Riemann Hypothesis, may allow the construction of an algorithm, or program, which can break down the large numbers involved in encryption. This can open the door to any online transaction using this form of security. Money and personal information can then be stolen.
To what extent is this kind of security breach already happening? To what extent is it being covered up? What are the present risks to the ordinary citizen of his or her online security being compromised? We petition the Obama administration to give a full account and to provide assurances.
