The United States has many gun laws on the books, some jurisdictions have an all out ban on firearms. Factually, these jurisdictions have the most crime. It is a fact that making new laws does not make us as Americans safer. How about instead of taking away the ability to protect ourselves we prosecute gun offenders to the fullest extent. Maybe we change the fact that simply carrying a gun illegally be changed from a misdemeanor to a felony. I also propose mandatory minimum sentencing for violators. Set the minimum to a 20 year minimum. This way when a gun offender is arrested, he won't be on the streets for the next twenty years. We should also make the use of a gun in the commission of a crime automatic life in prison.
