Stop credit background checks for renters from landlords

I would like to petition the US Government to stop landlords from doing credit checks on people looking to "LEASE" apartments. They have no right to our Social Security Numbers nor our Credit history due to the fact that we are not buying their homes/apartments, but only leasing. The Landlord has the legal right to have a tenant evicted from their property if rents are not obtained as agreed upon by both parties in the Leaseing Contract. Landlord credit checks violate the tenants privacy and opens up more possibitiy of Identity theft. Not only are the landlords asking for the leasors information, some landlords go so far as to request the SS# of all the tenants occupying these apartments even to the children. It's violation of a persons privacy that needs to be ceased.
