It has been reported that DARPA is already working on robots to be used as independently functioning soldiers in the field against human enemies. Drones are bad enough and should be discontinued, but at least they are controlled by human technicians and do not strike targets on their own. To let such technology loose on mankind is pure madness. Development of such technology would instigate yet another vicious and costly arms race that we can ill-afford. Given that the development of independently operating robots is inevitable, there needs to be an international agreement to control these creations. Robots going forward should only act independently according to hard wired restrictions like the three laws of robotics suggested by Isaac Asimov.
