Our country is deep in debt and the last time our country didn't deficit spend was in 1998, for those who don't know, deficit spending is the act of a government spending more money than they have made that year through taxes and other means. The U.S. cannot maintain its status as a superpower if we are deep in debt and make no attempt to at least decrease it. We can, however, still maintain our superiority for much longer if we cut back on military spending(we spend over $50 billion a year on our military, China spends only around $10 billion a year) and if the government uses that money to fix our problems back home and funds scientific projects like ones that are trying to develop new fuel sources, then we can become vastly superior to all countries for a long time after oil runs out.
