The American Flag is much more than a woven, dyed rectangle sitting atop a flag pole. The American flag is not about a single group of people, but rather about the collective population in which we share our homeland. The American Flag is about our freedoms, our schools, our communities, our veterans (past and present) and our daily lives. Our flag is not a symbol of what it was, as our country has never been blameless in prejudice, affairs, and scandal. The American Flag has always been a symbol of putting our own selfish ambitions aside, and recognizing the need for sacrifice for the better good. Founded on a united front, The American Flag is what keeps America the land of the free. To allow desecration is to say we no longer have an interest in fellow man, or America. That is treason.
