America's greatest resource is our human capital. Why, then, do we tax college employees who use their tuition benefit to further educate themselves and ultimately improve their communities?
H.R. 8, Section 127 made permanent a maximum $5,250 exemption from taxes on tuition benefits. Why tax education at all? If the Federal Government encourages education, this seems hypocritical.
Employees of private colleges don't earn more income than their counterparts at public schools -- oftentimes less, in fact -- so why discriminate against them in having a maximum tuition exemption?
If anything, a maximum credit hour exemption would make more sense.
The college employees disadvantaged by this policy aren't the reason for sky-rocketing tuition costs. Stop punishing us as if we were.
