Stop the DOJ and Save Consumer Choice for EBooks

Created by C.A. on August 02, 2013

The DOJ recently judged that Apple colluded with publishers to raise book prices. This issue is currently under appeal.
However the question of the validity of the judgement has not stopped the DOJ from demanding that Apple end all deals with every major publisher, thus shutting down Apple's iBooks Store, for a minimum of 5 years.
The DOJ claims their actions are to protect consumers however shutting down an entire store puts too much power in the remaining companies, particularly Amazon who was and will return to enjoying a monopoly position.
There are ways to protect competition such as restricting MFNs, ending/limiting exclusivity deals and windowing and limiting publisher price controls.
Shutting down a store only hurts consumers. The DOJ needs to be told no, they can't do this.
