Stop employers from discrimination on past criminal history

Created by J.D. on June 30, 2012

Many employers claim equal opportunity employment as long as the potential job candidate is qualified. What I have found is that many employers discriminate against those with a past criminal history which I find to be discriminatory. If someone has already served their time, whether it was the county jail or probation, that person should have the right to work just like anyone else without a criminal history. The background checks conducted should be job specific to what the potential candidate is applying for and not completely ban them from a job altogether. Example, if a person is applying for a bank teller position and they were previously charged with robbery or theft of any kind, then it would be justified not to hire the person for that particular position as it involves money.
