It is illegal for employers to ask an employee about his or her affiliations with groups and organizations; it may subjugate an employee to discrimination. So, it should also be illegal for an employer to ask an employee to provide their online social-networking information. Social-networking sites document these affiliations (religious and political, etc.); they also contain private information that chronicles the lives of each member. Social networking enables self-expression; private expression is often prohibited by employers in the work-place; therefore, employers should be prohibited from observing an employee’s private expressions outside of the workplace. Employees should not have to worry about their personal life creating biases in the minds of their employers. #ERUPT
