Subscribers to a digital cable service usually rent a set-top box from their cable operator. But the Commission’s rules allow subscribers to use a CableCARD-ready (sometimes called “plug and play” or “digital cable-ready”) device instead of leasing a set-top box from the cable operator. The time for cable cards is passed and these services need to be delivered without renting equipment from the cable operators. These services can be delivered over the internet without the use of rented equipment and they should be delivered to our televisions without rented equipment. I am asking the President to deregulate set top boxes and allow direct purchase of the equipment needed for cable viewing
