President Obama announced that a school shooting is happening every week. They are becoming more and more frequent and they are preventable.
In addition to the frequency increasing so has the media coverage of each event. The coverage of an event does not seem to stop until a new, more horrible crime has been committed.
In most cases teenagers seeking attention seem to be the culprits.
The public does have a right to be informed of shootings, however a limit to the amount of time spent covering each event needs to be put in place in order to remove the reward of attention from the equation. By allowing excessive coverage we are affirming and encouraging these events to keep happening.
