Stop farm subsidies for Junk Food

Created by S.J. on October 18, 2011

It's well known that many farm subsidies just make Junk Food cheaper, adding to our nation's obesity epidemic.

The U.S. Public Interest Research Group on Sep 21, 2011, released "Apples to Twinkies," a review of agricultural subsidies showing that since 1995, ~$16.9 Billion in taxpayer money went toward supplementing the country's most common food additives: corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, corn starch and soy oils.

In addition, much of the corn, wheat, and soy crops receiving these subsidies become animal feed for other farmers, or go toward ethanol producers, who receive their own subsidies. This creates an unfair market distortion, allowing certain industries to double-dip into these subsidies.

Stop subsidizing junk foods & making America's health care problems worse!
