MRE’s (Meals ready to eat) are pre-packaged, shelf- stable packets provided for soldiers to use when they are out in the field. Soldiers have carried MRE’s during battlefield conflict, but have not been used in soldiers'. home camp. There, soldiers are expected to have four meals a day; three hot meals and a sandwich bar. The “midrats” better known as the midnight to noon service have been removed. This includes hot breakfast and sustenance for soldiers coming off duty. Midrats are the most important meal for a soldier. The Pentagon is also removing the 24 hour sandwich service.
This practice must stop. If our troops, who are willing to give their very lives, don't deserve the best, then who does?
