H.R. 5780, the Utah Public Lands Initiative, proposes to rollback federal policy to the late 1800s when Indian lands & resources where taken for the benefit of others. The 100,000 acres are within the oil & gas rich Uintah Basin, the very resources that the Tribe uses to fund its government, provide for its members, and support the local & regional economy. This land also provides food for the for the members. H.R. 5780, The Utah Public Lands Initiative would take the land of the Ute Indian Tribe’s Reservation Lands for the State of Utah.
