The FTC, urged by a coalition of companies who between them cannot compete (ironically named the fairsearch coalition), has unilaterally decided that google is too successful.
As google points out, "competition is only a click away." Meaning that these other companies are free to attempt to lure customers to their search tools.
If the government really wants to protect its citizens, it should beef up CAN-SPAM laws and enforcement, rather than forcing google to allow spam in our search results as well as in our email.
We choose to use google for search precisely because it does not rank sites like nextag highly. If we want to use nextag, we know where to find it. We do not find google's ranking or promotion of its own sites misleading or offensive, or if we do, we will switch to bing.
