The "sustainability consultancy" Environmental Resources Management (ERM) was paid an undisclosed amount under contract to TransCanada to write the statement, which is now an official government document. The statement estimates, and then dismisses, the pipeline's massive carbon footprint and other environmental impacts, because, it asserts, the mining and burning of the tar sands is unstoppable. This is completely antithetical.
1. The pipeline can and will impact out nations aquifers, based on previous data from spills involving the existing oil shale pipeline.
2. Simply giving up and stating that mining and burning these filthy and expensive to refine oil shale's is asinine.
3. Relying on studies conducted by entities of the very companies and investors that stand to gain is wrong.
