In the White House's response to petitions opposing anti-piracy bills, it was written:
"Don’t limit your opinion to what’s the wrong thing to do, ask yourself what’s right."
What is right is twofold:
1. Combating online piracy is futile. Anything digitized can, and will, be made available for free, regardless of its creator's wishes. This is the new normal, and legislation will not stop it.
2. Congress is Constitutionally empowered "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries." Copyright no longer promotes progress or aids authors, and its 70/120-year periods are "limited times" only in name. The law must be reexamined, then substantially altered or abolished.
