Euthanasia by injection (EBI) is the only acceptable and humane means of euthanasia for all shelter animals. It is a national tragedy that 3 to 4 million shelter animals must be euthanized every year. Until a solution is reached, the final moments for these animals must be humane. A gas chamber can be one way used that is an enclosure in a shelter or pound, and animals are placed inside and the gas turned on. These animals do not die quickly or painlessly. They struggle for breath. They claw to get out. Some shelters even just throw them in furnaces alive, some use heart needles without sedation. These uncivilized methods must stop. Very few states have outlawed measures other than EBI, it is time for the Federal government to act.
