Geographic discrimination is a remnant of segregationist misconceptions that the American people repudiate. However, all American citizens residing in Puerto Rico, regardless of their place of birth, are disenfranchised from their right to have voting representation in their own federal government. As a result, the American citizens of Puerto Rico are victims of unequal treatment under federal laws.
Puerto Rico is home to 3.7 million native-born American citizens.
We urge the President and Congress to end the rule of apartheid that is currently imposed upon the American citizens of Puerto Rico under the name of unincorporated territory.
