Some states gerrymander districts to tip elections to one party. Districts are drawn to limit one party's voice to one or two districts per state. That means that the general population will never be heard fairly on some issues. If a state can justify that kind of dishonesty... that it is on them... but do not allow this type of disenfranchisement to affect the rest of the country as a whole. If a state can be shown to have districts where gerrymandering does shape elections then that state should have the popular vote replace the electoral vote for US senate, house, and executive elections.
