One of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the nation's capital is under threat and the General Services Administration is on the verge of destroying it. The Old Post Office Pavilion, opened in 1899, an amazing example of Beaux Arts architecture is about to become a hotel operated by Donald Trump. Trump can not be trusted to maintain the historic interior and exterior. Instead of a beautiful public building, both ornate and subtle, Washington will receive a gaudy memorial to this man's arrogance. Furthermore, there is a moral hazard in allowing this project. The GSA will be taking a democratic space (a former Post Office) and turning it into a pleasure palace for the wealthy. If Mr. Trump wishes to build a hotel in Washington he should buy land and start from scratch.
