Stop the guilt trip in public schools.

Created by C.K. on March 07, 2013

In my public high school, English class is making me want to read less. Most of the books are about white/male oppressing, the civil rights movement, slavery, racism, sexism, women's rights, etc. Its not that these are not valid topics, they most certainly should get taught in schools, but every time I go to class and we start a new book, I have to write the same essay over and over. The girls and minorities are just as sick of it as everyone else. Every teacher every year is always shocked at our prior knowledge of these events in history. The main reason I am writing about this is that I went to China, as an exchange student. Our ignorance level of the Chinese is too high to be spending 80% of our curriculum on the same stuff. Bring variety to the classroom. Make kids want to read again.
