Many healthcare providers do not provide equal coverage for hospitalizations, doctor visits, and other medical care for the mentally ill. Someone who is suicidal needs to be in a hospital just as much as someone with a heart condition or lung disease. A suicidal person should not be afraid to get help because their insurance won't cover it. One big stressor that can lead to psychotic episodes is financial hardship. The current system only exacerbates the situation by burdening the mentally ill with expensive hospital bills when they do make the right choice to seek help. The mentally ill are not ill by choice, we have the right to be treated equally with those that have physical illnesses.
