The recent events in South Carolina have pit Americans against each other again. While there are certainly valid arguments for all sides of the Confederate Flag conflict, one side is losing against all others: American History. Stone Mountain in Georgia has an early odious history. However, since 1958, it has been a place of gathering for all people. Currently it is under attack and is being considered for the removal of it's Confederate generals carving. The removal of this carving, as well as all other signs of the Confederacy across America, is akin to the destruction of Middle Eastern history being waged by ISIS and Al Qaeda. Only which will it be - By hammer chisel or bombing? As a historian I ask you to publicly demand an end to these atrocities. We MUST preserve ALL our history
