HR 2606 permits the construction of a high-pressure gas pipeline through Gateway National Recreation Area and a gas metering and regulating station in the historic hangars at Floyd Bennett Field. We the undersigned oppose this project because:
• Land held in the public trust lost to private industrial use.
• Threatens wildlife, wetlands, ecosystems.
• Puts park users and residents at risk.
• Promotes hydrofracking and the use of shale gas.
The House has passed HR2606 authorizing the industrial use of Gateway National Park. The proposed high pressure gas pipeline will go directly under the beach at Riis Park, under protected wetlands in Jamaica Bay, and the proposed metering station in Floyd Bennett Field will be only yards from community gardens.
