Stop humanitarian tragedy in North Korea

Created by B.C. on January 28, 2013

In response to the continuation of US-led United Nations sanctions imposed against North Korea, the North Korean government is threatening to conduct a third nuclear test—an act that will almost certainly lead to the imposition of even more severe trade restrictions on the impoverished nation. Such a development will exacerbate an already severe food shortage in the country. More than a third of North Korean 5-year olds are stunted, while over a fourth of pregnant breast-feeding woman are severely malnourished. We demand that President Obama immediately work to renew diplomatic efforts to prevent further North Korean nuclear test and facilitate delivery of humanitarian food aid to the North so that innocent civilians are not made to suffer needlessly. Help to stop this human tragedy.
