Hydraulic fracturing requires millions of gallons of fresh water which are then combined with toxic chemicals, which leak and taint groundwater. Fracking communities have experienced a wide array of health problems and increased risk of earthquakes (see northeast Ohio; fracking waste). There are minimal regulations which are rarely enforced, and most wells go uninspected until members of local communities draw attention to their failure. Until we can safely access this natural gas, fracking should be abandoned for the safety of our drinking water at the very least.
