Dogs, often family pets because of their easy capture, are subjected to grisly and horrifying capture and slaughter to be stripped of their skin to make leather products such as golf gloves to be sold in the United States. These products are not labeled as "dog leather" and are thus being purchased unwittingly by people who think of them as "mans' best friend" and would never purchase these "products" if they were informed. Dogs being bludgeoned to death can be viewed on youtube.com as evidence of this horror. The USDA said the Animal Welfare Act does not protect these dogs. However §2131 specifically states the Act protects "the owners of animals from the theft of their animals by preventing the sale or use of animals which have been stolen."
