The universe is currently expanding and the rate of acceleration will continue to increase with time. This will ultimately result in the universe tearing itself apart, galaxies will fragment, then planets and ultimately even atoms and energy will disintegrate into infinitesimally small, unbound particles and radiation left to continue expanding away from each other through space. It is imperative that the government of the United States fund research into technologies and methods that can and will effectively stop this infinite expansion. It is needless to say that this threat poses the greatest and most serious danger to the fate of mankind.
