Internet providers currently practice geographical monopolies. They have colluded to make sure that across the entire country only one company is available in a specific neighborhood so that you, the consumer, have no ability to get the best service at the cheapest price.
Our country is built on free market principles where collusion and monopolies are supposed to be against the law. Nonetheless, these companies have been allowed to behave this way. Now a few companies who are the most powerful are able to charge you, the consumer, whatever they like, and have no motivation to provide good service.
