The Six Strike Policy some I.S.P.'s are implementing will remove and/or limit the access to the internet after allegations of copyright infringement.
If the ISP receives a number of complaints of copyright infringement, the consumer may see internet access suspended and/or severely limited. The consumer has little to no recourse once the ISP notifies them of (alleged) infringement.
While the consumer can pay a (non-refundable) fee to attempt to clear their name, the possibility of false positives (and added cost to innocent consumers) is significant.
