Many politicians fear being called a "socialist" because most people are ignorant and feel that it is an unacceptable political and economic stance. This skews policy in America to conservative, and many economic options and ideas are never brought up in government because they are socialist in nature. Obama, be the first to propose something socialist and end the Cold War irrationality that still dictates politics. If you have a socialist idea, or you like someones idea which appears to be socialist or far left leaning, don't be afraid to say "Hey, socialist policies are on the table and they are as equally valid as are conservative policies."
