The IRS has decided to treat automatic tips or gratuities as regular wages that must be given in paychecks and are not available to the tipped employee at the end of the night. This has caused MANY restaurants to STOP auto gratuities. The IRS claims that these are forced gratuities. That is simply false. Anyone can ask for the gratuity to be removed. How is that forcing anyone to tip? IT actually IS voluntary because it can be removed if the person insists. Of course, they don't because they know it's the right thing to do, although sometimes people are jerks and ask for it to be removed, but at least the restaurant somewhat stands up for it's employees and says "hey, this is just right. If you insist, we'll remove it, but you're a jerk if you do." Please don't destroy our jobs!
