The State Department survey is done and it gives the green light to Keystone XL to pipe dirty oil through the US heartland, but this pipeline is a terrible idea. The world needs to transition AWAY from oil and other fossil fuels to clean energy, solar, wind and others, because climate change is real and it is already disrupting the weather and human activities. Dare we worsen drought in California, a prime agricultural area now in danger? Dare we worsen the Polar Vortex that comes from redirecting the jet stream? Climate scientists warn that we are too near the tipping point and must curtail carbon emissions. Now is the time to act and this is a great place to draw the line. The health of the Earth, the planet that sustains our very lives, is much more important than big oil's greed.
