Stop leases of public land for coal mining!

Created by D.N. on August 21, 2013

The Bureau of Land Management should stop the proposed leasing of public land in Wyoming's Powder River Basin for the purpose of mining coal. The mining and burning of the extracted coal will be a carbon catastrophe.
The Federal government controls what happens on Federal land, and if it allows this coal mining, it directly contradicts President Obama's Climate Action Plan, especially the first tenet, "cutting carbon pollution in America."
There is no time to waste. The first of two lease sales is August 21st, and the second is September 18th. Delay any leases until after a period of public comment.
