A group of Senators is planning to start a bill that would increase the H-1B Visa cap from 65,000 to 115,000. It would also allow the cap to automatically rise to 300,000 visas annually.
The bill is being drafted by Senators Chris Coons (D), Orrin Hatch (R), Amy Klobuchar (D), and Marco Rubio (R). Names for the bill are either the Immigration Innovation Act of 2013, or alternatively the "I-Squared Act of 2013".
In a recent interview on NPR, this bill shows backing by large companies such as Microsoft that claim there are not enough skilled laborers in the US, yet unemployment is still at an all time high. If the bill passes, we will lose more jobs for Americans, especially in science, engineering, and technology (STEM) where we are already lacking, and bring lower wages to those areas.
