In 2010, 8.5% of the US Population, aged 18 to 64 had felony convictions on their record...approximately 10% of our able-bodied working-aged population has a felony that will show up in a background check. One in ten.
No employer should be able to ask about convictions if a person is no longer on parole/probation with a few exceptions like crimes against children. Even then that data should only be accessed by businesses who employ or serve children.
It's ridiculous for a sex offender whose crime was child pornography to not be allowed to work in a call center full of adults or a bottling factory full of adults.
Change the laws so people actually get a 2nd chance instead of a life sentence of no employment either committing more crime to survive, leeching off the government or both.
